Toneva Munroe is a member of EMPath’s participant advocacy group, the Voices Advocacy Council (VAC), as well as the organization’s Story Sharing Network (SSN), a group of participants who share their personal stories with EMPath supporters, lawmakers, reporters, peer organizations, and the public. Toneva first found her way to EMPath as a participant in the MassLEAP program and is now in the organization’s five-year program, Career Family Opportunity (CFO). Throughout her time with EMPath, Toneva has shared her story with a variety of audiences in order to educate others about her experiences, explain EMPath’s work, and advocate for critical policy change. Toneva has met with Representative Ayanna Pressley and members of the Biden-Harris Administration; sat on a panel with Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona; and was recently featured in an Insider article discussing her experiences with student loans and the need for total cancellation of student debt. Toneva lives with her 11-year-old daughter and loves being a mother to her daughter, dancing, biking, and other outdoor activities and of course loves advocating for justice efforts wherever possible.
